Deal the main damage. Their squad follow-up triggers when a monster is suppressed.
MH Outlanders has 14 named Adventurers plus your own Fated Adventurer, though Freya is not live yet. Each named Adventurer is locked to one weapon and class, while your Fated Adventurer can use any weapon, element or class.

Game8 lists 14 named Adventurers, and the official site currently profiles 13. The difference is Freya, who appeared in earlier betas but is not in the game at launch. Rarities here come from Game8. Check them in-game before you spend, since some early guides based theirs on closed betas.

You hunt in a squad of four: your main Adventurer plus up to three others. The AI plays anyone you are not controlling. Game8 notes that named Adventurers can equip other elements, but they lose the bonus damage from their preferred element. Your Fated Adventurer has no such limit.
Each named Adventurer works like a reimagined moveset for their weapon. RageGamingVideos compares them to a play style change, because they keep the weapon's identity while changing how it plays. No named Adventurer uses the Charge Blade yet, so your Fated Adventurer is the only way to play it. Developers are adding more over time, and one guide reports a new Adventurer roughly every two months, which is to be confirmed.
Midori hides a Long Sword inside her shamisen and relies heavily on timing. Her Skill 2 spends Spirit to raise her gauge, and she has very frequent access to Rupture damage. Her main parry comes at the start of Skill 3, and it refunds a Spirit level when it lands. Expect to rely on evades and positioning, since she has fewer default parries than the standard Long Sword.
Luka is a Bow user with Pierce arrows, so bigger targets and weak points suit him. He rewards perfect timing, because pressing Skill 1 during his blue hair flash fires an echo shot. That doubles the shot's effect and speeds up his coating energy. His Ultimate fires a burst of arrows and raises his maximum coating count by two.
Pyro is a tanky Great Sword built around taking damage to deal more. His Fortifying Slash replaces True Charge Slash at maximum Heat, and a hit during the charge jumps it straight to full power. His Guard Tackle generates Heat on a successful timed guard. He suits players who enjoy trading hits with monsters.
Rhodes is the only Hammer Adventurer and the only Ice one so far. He has a skating charge state, which gives him far more mobility than a normal Hammer. His Skill 2 is a parry state, and both tools feed a big finishing slam. Ouyang Varen is a combo-focused Lance who builds Sharpness for a stronger Skill 3, and he loses it if he stops attacking or takes a hit.
Keres is a parry-focused Dual Blades user who can enter Demon Mode at 40% gauge. Landing parries gives her quick access to her strongest attack, Bone Piercer. Her Ultimate marks a monster part so it takes more damage. Game8 calls her one of the best supports for a Dragon-only team.
Pepper is the only named Heavy Bowgun user, and she plays like an aerial fighter. She dashes off monsters to launch herself up, then fires from the air and chains combos. Her Ultimate paralyzes the monster for free attack time. Her combos make her feel very different from the simple standard Heavy Bowgun.
Luxheart is a fast combo Great Sword with no charging focus. He builds Heat up to six stars, then spends it on Grand Performance, which scales with Heat. His Ultimate is a multi-charge firework that flashes monsters. Raya is a slower, methodical Dual Blades user with long combos, and her Ultimate creates a pitfall trap.
Freya is a Great Sword Disruptor who has appeared in betas, and one guide describes her as evade-heavy. Her live kit is to be confirmed, because she could change before she arrives. Her release timing is also to be confirmed.
Madelyn is a Bow support who stacks spores on monsters, up to a maximum of ten. Spending all ten puts her in a burst mode where she keeps full charge while dealing heavy damage. Her Ultimate heals allies and buffs their damage for a short time. She also rewards efficient play, because good players can keep that mode active for most of a hunt.
Arkaya is the only Adventurer built around barriers, so he suits defensive players. He builds Battle Spirit through thrusts and perfect guards, then spends it on Earth Rend Finisher for damage and a barrier. His Ultimate shields the squad and fills his Battle Spirit at once. Official text calls this resource Resolve, so the name is to be confirmed in-game.
Haze is the only Dual Blades user built around Archdemon Mode. Once there, she can run an infinite combo that speeds up over time, with a parry on Skill 1. Her Ultimate makes monsters take more elemental damage from critical hits. Game8 adds that her Affinity and Critical Elemental Damage buffs work on any team.
Ryunosuke is a Long Sword support with a meat-eating gimmick. He stacks three meat buffs to reach Well-fed, which adds Rupture to his skills. His Ultimate raises allies' Fire damage, so he fits Fire teams best. He is also very mobile, because he spends much of his time sprinting in his Feasting state.
Recruitment is the main way to get new Adventurers, using contracts on a random pool. Contracts come from quests, trials and daily or weekly rewards. Keep in mind that higher-rarity characters are much less common. You can also buy them indirectly, as paid currency can be exchanged for contracts.
Several Adventurers are free without pulling. Pyro and Luka come from events, while Luxheart and Ryunosuke arrive through progression. Haze is a guild reward, so joining a guild is worthwhile. Raya joins early through the story, and the official site also lists her as a milestone reward.
Build around your Fated Adventurer first, because it stays useful for the whole game. Take free Raya for your Disruptor slot, and aim for a support like Madelyn or Arkaya. A healer or a shield makes every hunt easier. After that, choose the moveset you enjoy most, since each one changes how its weapon feels.
Beyond class, match elements to your squad. Dragon players can build around Pyro, Keres and Arkaya, while Fire players have Midori, Raya and Ryunosuke. Use our character tier list to compare their strength. Launch data is still new, so expect these details to change with updates.
