MH Outlanders Buddy Tier List

Kojiro is the best Buddy for Assault characters, Hoppy and Devu lead Disruptor, and Nailu leads Support. Pick by your Adventurer first, because several top Buddies only shine with one character.

Best Buddies by class

Game8 splits its ranking by Adventurer class, which is the most useful way to read it. Your Buddy has to suit your Adventurer's class, so compare Buddies inside each class first. This list is based on early impressions and is likely to change. Use it as a starting point rather than a final verdict.

RankAssaultDisruptorSupport
SKojiroHoppy, DevuNailu
APipa, DaishoBarim, NakoRavinge, Blademaster, Ario
BBanako, Icarus, Tidal Claw, Sand VelvetSand Echo, ReefcoreTidal Sound, Golden Bell

Game8 ranks each Buddy on two things. Effectivity covers the value a Buddy gives its Adventurer and the squad. Versatility covers how well it works across Adventurers in the same class. S rank means a major boost to damage or survivability, while B rank means generic boosts that still help.

Overall tier list

Gacha.gg ranks all 40 Buddies in one list, and most of them are in the Standard pool. Exceptions are noted below. Its list adds a C tier for situational picks, which Game8 does not use. Because the two lists use different structures, compare a Buddy's rough standing rather than its exact letter.

Buddies listed by Gacha.gg alone have no class or effect in our sources, so those details are to be confirmed. That covers names such as Ro, Pheasant and Aryo. We list them here so you can see where they rank, but we cannot yet say who should use them.

Where the two lists agree

Kojiro, Hoppy and Devu sit in the top tier of both lists, so they are the safest picks. Ravinge, Blademaster and Ario sit at A in both, which makes them dependable Support options. Banako, Icarus, Tidal Claw and Golden Bell land at B on both lists. These are the rankings you can trust most for now.

The lists disagree on a few names. Gacha.gg moves Pipa and Daisho up to S and puts Nailu at A, the reverse of Game8. It also rates Tidal Sound higher, and Barim and Nako lower. Sand Velvet, Sand Echo and Reefcore drop to C on Gacha.gg, so check how they fit your squad before you invest.

Best Assault Buddies

Kojiro is by far the best Assault Buddy according to Game8, thanks to its high Fire damage bonus. Its passive stays active because Long Sword users can easily trigger Rupture. It is recommended for Midori and the Fated Adventurer. If you run either one, this is the Buddy to chase.

Pipa suits Luka because it raises Thunder damage for characters who deal Piercing damage. That lines up well with Bow users. Daisho suits Pyro, since parrying can trigger a temporary Dragon damage boost. Both are strong when paired with the right Adventurer, which may explain why Gacha.gg rates them so highly.

The B-tier Assault Buddies are Banako, Icarus, Tidal Claw and Sand Velvet. Game8 calls them solid options for sub-DPS allies, because their damage boosts are generic. It recommends them for the Fated Adventurer, Luka and Ouyang Varen. Use them while you work toward a better Buddy.

Best Disruptor Buddies

Hoppy is great for units that deal Water damage and can keep its passive active by staying airborne. Right now, that only really fits Pepper, whose kit suits it perfectly. Devu's value comes from its high Dragon damage boost, and its passive relies on combo damage. Game8 points out that combo damage comes from Dual Blades users, so Devu is the pick for Keres.

Barim and Nako are the generic choices when you have no specific pairing. Barim increases how long Suppression lasts, which gives your squad a bigger damage window. Nako increases your whole squad's damage against Suppressed monsters. Game8 recommends both for Keres and Raya.

Sand Echo and Reefcore are B tier. They work best on ally Disruptors when you run Stamina-heavy Adventurers, such as Bow users. Game8 recommends them for Pepper and Raya. Take them for that niche rather than for raw power.

Best Support Buddies

Nailu is a great Buddy specifically for Arkaya, because it works with his Shield application. Arkaya does not focus on damage, but Nailu still raises his effect in combat. Its value is tied to him, which may explain why Gacha.gg ranks it a tier lower. If you do not use Arkaya, look at the A-tier picks first.

Ravinge gives the whole party a generic elemental boost, though it does not apply to Physical damage. Blademaster boosts damage in general, with lower values than Ravinge, but it applies to any damage your squad deals. Ario increases Affinity, which helps round out your squad's stats. Game8 recommends all three for Arkaya and Madelyn.

Tidal Sound is a defensive option that provides damage reduction. It is useful while you learn attack patterns, and Game8 suggests moving to damage-focused Buddies later. Golden Bell helps you manage Stamina, especially on Bow characters. Both are recommended for Arkaya and Madelyn.

How to get SSR Buddies

Kojiro is tied to the Battle Pass. Ray How To Gacha reports that reaching tier 60 unlocks this SSR Buddy, with a possible bonus on the paid version. The same video says you can get three copies of Kojiro, which suggests duplicates matter. Treat those Battle Pass details as to be confirmed in-game, since the video came out before launch.

The video also calls free SSR Buddies a good sign for players who do not spend. Gacha.gg's list shows most Buddies come from the Standard pool, and it marks Pheasant and Aryo as unreleased. Shadow is listed with Midori and Wrench with Freya, but how these two are obtained is to be confirmed. Check the banner details in-game before you spend any contracts.

Who should you build first?

Match your Buddy to your main Adventurer before you worry about tier letters. Most S-rank picks depend on a specific Adventurer, so they lose value on the wrong character. Use this quick list:

  • Midori or the Fated Adventurer: Kojiro.
  • Luka: Pipa.
  • Pyro: Daisho.
  • Pepper: Hoppy.
  • Keres: Devu, then Barim or Nako.
  • Arkaya: Nailu, then Ravinge, Blademaster or Ario.
  • Madelyn: Ravinge, Blademaster or Ario.
  • Raya: Barim or Nako.

If a top pick is out of reach, a generic Buddy in the same class will do the job. Game8 says its B-tier Buddies are still useful for raising your squad's overall strength. Revisit this list as players test the game further, because both rankings are early.
