MH Outlanders Tips

The best MH Outlanders tips are simple: push the main story, do your dailies, upgrade your Fated Adventurer and Madelyn, save Rutacoins for Featured Contracts, and bring one Adventurer of each class. The details below explain why each one matters.

The tips that matter most

Game8 lists 15 essentials, and Varsona Vyzelta and Lex cover much of the same ground. Where they overlap, the advice is usually safe to follow. Start with this short list, then read the sections below for the reasons.

PriorityTipWhy it matters
1Follow the main storyIt unlocks Co-op Hunts, Marathon Hunts and new mechanics
2Do your dailiesDaily Activity pays Rutacoins, EXP and resources
3Upgrade your Fated AdventurerIt adapts to any team without a new pull
4Save Rutacoins for ContractsMaterials and Energy can be earned another way
5Join a guildGuild events give extra rewards
6Finish the Combat TutorialIt pays rewards and teaches perfect dodges

Your first hour

Pick your controls first. Adventure Mode gives you three big buttons and strings combos together for you, while Classic Mode gives you more moves. Lex suggests starting on Adventure Mode while you learn how monsters move, then switching later. Either way, finish the Combat Tutorial, because it pays rewards even if you know Monster Hunter already.

Perfect dodges are worth learning early. On Bow, one instantly maxes your charge, and on Great Sword it lets you keep your charge. New players should try Heavy Bowgun or Long Sword, according to Lex. Do not stress over the choice, because your Fated Adventurer can switch later.

Before you pull, claim everything free. Recruitment opens after your first Kulu-Ya-Ku hunt, and your mail holds 20 Standard and 5 Featured Contracts. The shop also has a free Featured Contract called Maple Echoes, plus a Beginner's Pack with 5 Standard Contracts for 60 Rutacoins.

How to build your squad

You control one character, and three more fight beside you. Each class triggers its squadmate skill differently, and that is why balance matters.

ClassRoleSquadmate skill trigger
AssaultDeals damageWhen you knock down or stun the monster
DisruptorStuns, traps and breaks partsWhen you land a perfect dodge, perfect guard or parry
SupportHeals, buffs and shieldsWhen you use your third skill

Lex recommends one of each class, with the fourth slot for anyone you like. Bring four Assault characters and you lose two of those three bonuses. Elements matter too, because a weapon that matches its character hits harder. Teammates who share an element also break parts faster.

Two free units are worth keeping up to date, according to Varsona. Madelyn's healing saves resources early, and as a ranged AI unit she suffers less from poor positioning. Your Fated Adventurer can use every weapon and element, so it can activate any team bonus. Its Insights also come without any pulls, through the main quest and Trial Expeditions.

Spend materials on one character

Do not gear all four characters. Every character starts in Guild gear, which has a set bonus that grows with your Adventure Rank. Put your materials into your main, and if you upgrade a teammate, do the weapon first. Companions take fewer hits, so Game8 says armor can wait until harder hunts.

Early armor is replaced quickly, so do not farm a full set from every monster. LDShop also notes that mixing pieces can activate two set bonuses at once. Keepsakes are worth upgrading as soon as you can, because LDShop calls them raw power. Treat personal gear as the priority, since facilities mainly improve quality of life.

Hold back on low-rarity Visages. Varsona regretted upgrading lower-rarity illustrations, because the upgrade materials are expensive and golden ones are simply stronger. That video calls them illustrations, and we read this as the same system as Visages, which is to be confirmed. Their stats are random, and duplicates of one monster do not count towards set bonuses.

Rutacoins and Energy

Rutacoins buy either type of contract at the same price, but only Featured Contracts can get you the limited character. So pick Featured, and do not buy Energy, since the cost rises each time. Game8 agrees that most materials can be earned elsewhere, and that Energy returns on its own.

Energy only pays for Hunt Requests, at 20 each. Hunting monsters in the field costs none. Hunt Requests give materials for characters, Buddies and Visages. Energy returns at one point every 12 minutes, and a full bar then fills a slower Stored Energy tank. Spend it before you log off, and use Quick Hunt when your team is strong enough.

How to pass the two early walls

Lex describes two walls that stop most players in the first week. The first is Adventure Rank, because some story quests stay locked until you reach it. Do not grind random monsters. Clear Research objectives in Free Hunts, under Equipment Supply in the Gameplay Handbook, because they give bonus Adventure EXP the first time.

The second wall is Adventurer Power. Lex says many players will not reach the later checks without an SSR Buddy. The free track of the Rumbling Furnace pass opens at Adventure Rank 4 and gives Kojiro, an SSR Buddy, at level 60. You level that pass through dailies and hunting.

Tips for every hunt

Eat a meal before you leave, because the buff lasts one hour and covers several hunts. Unlock Cold and Heat-Resistant Undergarments in the Survival Tree, so you can stop using drinks. When a monster flashes red, a big attack is coming, so dodge instead of starting a combo.

Use Lock-On to pick the part you want, but keep your feet moving. LDShop warns that your attack still hits whatever is in front of you. Tails need sever damage to come off, and Lex says Hammer is the only blunt weapon. Check a monster's weak element in your investigation notes once you have hunted it, then save a Loadout for each element.

Radiant monsters are angrier and much stronger, and they can power up again mid-fight. Fight the normal version first and learn its moves. The first field hunt of a new monster also gives a Standard Contract, so it is worth seeking out new targets.

Exploring the field

Repair and upgrade every Watchtower you find. Each one reveals the map, and upgrades raise your building limit for camps and Ballistas. LDShop says to build towers before camps. Turn on auto-craft while you gather, so you do not run out of healing.

Collect wood from the start. Varsona calls Glider energy capacity a game-changer, with 20 levels that cost 2,000 wood in total and no research points. Wood also pays for Ballistas and camps. Ancient treasures are also worth the detour. They are covered in thorns, so carry a nearby item such as a Fire Bloom to burn them away.

Your daily checklist

Reach 120 Daily Activity, because Lex says it gives thousands of Adventure EXP plus Rutacoins. These are the tasks to do first:

  1. Spend your Energy on Hunt Requests.
  2. Do your Trial Expeditions, which unlock at three per day.
  3. Take the three daily investigations.
  4. Check Ruck's shop in Kulune Village for cheap daily items.
  5. Join in with guild activities.

Joining a guild early also helps socially. Varsona says the first months after launch are the best time to find a regular group, while players sit at a similar power level.
