Midori is an SSR Fire Long Sword Assault and the launch limited Adventurer. She is worth pulling if you plan to play her yourself, because she ranks S as a main but only B as a squadmate.

Is Midori worth pulling?

Yes, if you will control her. Game8 ranks her S as a main character and B as a squadmate, and Gacha.gg places her in S tier, 5th of 14. On Fire-weak monsters she out-damages the Fated Adventurer on any weapon, though she falls behind elsewhere. Gacha.gg also notes she is less steady than Luka, because she fights in melee.

She is a limited Adventurer, so you can only recruit her with Featured Contracts during her banner. Decide before 26 November if you want her. When she will return is to be confirmed.

Best build

Game8's Fire Long Sword build centers on Wyvern Blade "Fall" II, the best Fire Long Sword it lists at around AR29. It has 201 attack, 100 Fire and 3.6% Affinity. For armor, build mostly Rathalos pieces to activate Rathalos's Weakness, which adds a level of Weakspot Exploit. These pieces work together to raise her Affinity and Fire damage.

  • Head: Rathalos Helm II
  • Chest: Rathalos Mail II
  • Arms: Rathian Vambraces II
  • Waist: Rathalos Coil II
  • Legs: Anja Greaves II

This set gives Fire Damage Up 4, Weakspot Exploit 2, and single levels of Flash Draw, Breaker, Health Cycle, Botanical Expert and Wrecker. Fire Damage Up and Flash Draw raise your damage. Breaker makes it easier to break or sever parts. Health Cycle heals you when you attack a broken part.

Early gear progression

You can reach that build in stages. Game8 splits it by Adventure Rank, so you do not need Rathalos materials right away. Gacha.gg's early example uses the Guild Crimson Crest Long Sword (Fire) I, which matches Game8's first stage.

Adventure RankGear plan
AR 1-16Guild Crimson Crest Long Sword (Fire) I, with mixed Kulu-Ya-Ku, Great Jagras and Pukei-Pukei armor
AR 17-28+Blazing Shotel I, with Anjanath armor and Radiant Rathian Mail I

The second stage gives you Weakspot Follow-up and Fire Damage Up. Anjanath Ember adds more Fire Damage Up on top. Start this set after your first Anjanath hunt.

Best team

Game8's recommended squad for Midori is mono-Fire. She takes the main damage role, while your Fated Adventurer adds extra damage as sub-DPS. Give it a Fire weapon to improve Part Break Efficiency for the element.

Raya disrupts monsters and places traps with her Ultimate. Ryunosuke heals the team, buffs Fire damage and grants immunity to status ailments. Midori's A Dance of Fire and Flame trait raises part break efficiency by 35% while Fire Resonance is active.

Best Buddy and Visage

Kojiro is her best Buddy. After you deal Rupture damage, it raises Fire damage by 30% for 10 seconds. Blade of Truth triggers that bonus easily, and Kojiro also lifts overall squad damage. Banako is the alternative, adding 0.60% Affinity for the squad.

Both sources agree on her Visages. Use Radiant Rathian as your Core Visage, which gives Fire damage +10% for 20 seconds after Rupture damage. Pair it with the Ink of Flames set. Two pieces give Fire damage +5%, and four give +24% for 20 seconds after hitting a part with good or decent hitzone values.

Aim for Affinity and Elemental Damage as your top stats. Fire attack, Elemental Critical Damage, Damage and Physical attack come after those.

Insight and Engraving priority

Take Maple Season Melody first. When Skill 2 or Standing Spin Slash hits, it grants a stack that raises skill damage by 9% for 30 seconds, up to three stacks. Momentary Resonance comes next, because it extends evade invincibility and makes Perfect Evades easier. Then pick up Majestic Fireworks for 18% more Fire skill damage after your Ultimate.

Maple Season Echo, Endless Tones and Shadow Legion are solid after that. Game8's Engraving order is Elemental Specialization, Ultimate, Core Passive, Skill Boost, then Core Attribute. Elemental Specialization comes first because it raises her overall damage. Then Ultimate lowers her cooldown and adds damage.

How to play Midori

Midori's game plan is to level the Spirit Gauge quickly, then unload her Ultimate and Skill 3. Use Blade of Truth rather than Spirit Slash to raise gauge levels, because it does so in one attack instead of three. It also deals multiple hits of Sever damage, which helps cut off tails. Follow this rotation:

  1. Fill the Spirit Gauge with a full Chain Slash combo.
  2. Use Blade of Truth (Skill 2) at about 70% gauge, repeating until Level 3.
  3. Take every Perfect Evade you can to speed that up.
  4. Apply your squad's buffs and debuffs.
  5. Use her Ultimate, pressing Basic Attack as she sheathes to finish it.
  6. Chain Moment of Insight (Skill 3) three times.

Perfect Evade is her best trick. Its combo raises your gauge level even on an empty gauge, and it fills the gauge for another Blade of Truth. Moment of Insight also rewards timing. The first hit can parry attacks, and pressing Skill 3 when the circles overlap adds damage to the next two hits.

Save her Ultimate for when her gauge is red if you can. Our sources name it differently, Curtain Call on Game8 and Final Curtain on Gacha.gg, so the in-game name is to be confirmed.

Skills and traits

Her Grand Entrance trait raises damage by 5% for 5 seconds whenever she consumes a Spirit Gauge level, stacking three times. Gacha.gg also lists two Fire Damage Up traits at 10% each. Nightfall Wanderer reduces squad stamina use by 5% at night, and Carving Expert gives one extra material from small monsters. Her Squadmate Skill follows up with heavy Sever damage when a monster is suppressed, but only once every 40 seconds.

Dear Gamer's reaction video highlights how flashy her combos look, with a long reach and a Palico-assisted Co-op Skill. That was recorded before launch, so treat it as a first impression. Her Co-op Skill, Felyne Draw Technique, deals Rupture damage and raises her gauge a level.

Who is Midori?

Midori comes from a family renowned for music, and she wields a Long Sword hidden in her shamisen. A monster attack shattered her family's home, and a passing adventurer later showed her a new path. She eventually joined a guild led by Freya. Gacha.gg's profile describes her as proud and aloof, but she finds real friendship on her journey.
