MH Outlanders Weapons
MH Outlanders has eight weapon types: Great Sword, Long Sword, Dual Blades, Hammer, Lance, Charge Blade, Heavy Bowgun and Bow. Your Fated Adventurer can use all of them, while every other Adventurer is locked to one.

All eight weapons at a glance
Game8 lists eight weapon types, with more promised in future updates. There is no unique new weapon type, though Game8 says the developers have not ruled out an exclusive one later. This table sums up how each one plays. The Adventurer column combines BlueStacks' pre-launch table with later launch lists.
| Weapon | Range | Core mechanic | Adventurers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Great Sword | Melee | Damage scales with charge level | Pyro, Luxheart, Freya |
| Long Sword | Melee | Spirit Gauge powered by counters | Midori, Ryunosuke |
| Dual Blades | Melee | Demon Mode and Archdemon Mode | Keres, Raya, Haze |
| Hammer | Melee | Mobile charging, no guard | Rhodes |
| Lance | Melee | Shield guard and counterattacks | Ouyang Varen, Arkaya |
| Charge Blade | Melee | Sword and shield that transforms into an axe | Fated Adventurer only |
| Heavy Bowgun | Ranged | Special ammo and Wyvernheart | Pepper |
| Bow | Ranged | Charge gauge built through evasion | Luka, Madelyn |
How weapons work
You craft weapons through regular play, so recruitment only applies to characters. That makes your Fated Adventurer the best way to test everything for free. Gacha Smack says each weapon's classic feel has been preserved, so you can play all eight without paying. Kanima adds that the Fated Adventurer can use every element without a penalty.
Other Adventurers are locked to one weapon and class. In exchange, each pairing unlocks new Follow-up moves, so the same weapon can feel different between characters. Read an Adventurer's kit before you spend recruitment items on them. Luka and Madelyn both use a Bow, for example, but one is Assault and the other is Support.
BlueStacks names three techniques worth learning early:
- Perfect Evade: a timed dodge that, depending on the weapon, keeps a charge, repositions you or opens a counter.
- Perfect Guard: a timed block, which instantly reloads special ammo on Heavy Bowgun.
- Follow-up moves: extra attacks unlocked by specific Adventurer and weapon pairings.
Great Sword
Great Sword is very slow, but damage climbs with each charge level. Landing a fully charged strike is the whole point of the weapon. A Perfect Evade lets you keep charging without sheathing, and you can switch skills during a charge to chain into follow-ups.
Kanima calls it surprisingly safe. You can tackle from a standing position or straight after a slash, and the new True Charged Slash has full Super Armor, so a hit will not interrupt it. Pyro is built around enduring attacks and turning them into heavy burst damage. Choose this weapon if you enjoy reading a monster and committing to one decisive hit.
Long Sword
Long Sword offers fast, fluid attacks, solid damage and good mobility. It has no block, so survival depends on well-timed dodges. Its Spirit Gauge levels power up your attacks, and counters fill that gauge faster. Learn to answer a strike with a counter instead of backing away.
Kanima's note matters here. Counters need the monster to target you, which is usually true solo, because AI teammates draw less aggro. It gets harder in multiplayer endgame content. Midori adds graceful evasion and faster Spirit Gauge building, and BlueStacks reports an exclusive skill that swaps Spirit Blade strikes for timed iai draw attacks.
Dual Blades
Dual Blades trade power per hit for very high speed. Individual hits are weak and you cannot block, but the steady stream of strikes applies element and status quickly. Demon Mode strengthens your attacks and fills the Demon Gauge. A full gauge lets you enter Archdemon Mode, which enhances your attacks further while the gauge drains.
Kanima rates this the strongest melee weapon, with one catch. Its damage potential is very high, but melee weapons lose time chasing monsters, so real results are lower. Keres chains rapid strikes into long combos. Raya uses dance-like evasion, and some of her skills spend stamina to fill the gauge faster.
Hammer
Hammer is a heavy, blunt weapon built around charged attacks. It cannot guard, but you can keep moving while charging, so you can reposition and line up a strike together. Its main appeal is stunning a monster with hits to the head, and that suits players who fight up close.
Avoid damage through dodging and positioning, because blocking is not an option. Kanima also notes that its new jumping smash has no Super Armor, so a hit can interrupt it, and that Heavy Bowgun stunned better in the beta. BlueStacks' pre-launch guide showed no Hammer Adventurer, but Rhodes now fills that role.
Lance
Lance is the defensive anchor of the arsenal. It combines long reach and quick thrusts with a large shield, so you attack and defend in the same rhythm. Outlanders keeps the classic dash attack and adds a spiral thrust, which dashes forward and spins into a slash followed by a thrust. The trade-off is mobility, because moving with it takes practice.
Ouyang Varen is an Assault Lance user who deflects with his shield and builds Impetus to power up his thrusts. Arkaya is a Support user who builds Resolve, then spends it on a devastating blow that also grants a massive shield. Kanima found the Fated Adventurer's Lance easy to play, but low on damage in the beta.
Charge Blade
Charge Blade was not in the store's original seven weapon types, and it was not in the closed betas. Producer Dong Huang confirmed it for launch, and BlueStacks says it brought the total to eight. In the mainline series it switches between sword and shield and a heavier axe form.
BlueStacks and Kanima both wrote before it was playable, so neither covers how it plays in Outlanders. Details in our weapon tier list come from later launch sources. Any changes after launch are to be confirmed.
Heavy Bowgun
Heavy Bowgun brings heavy firepower and multiple ammo types with different status ailments. It is slower than Bow, so positioning matters. Special ammo is limited, but it refills over time or when your shots hit, and a Perfect Guard reloads it instantly. Wyvernheart fires a barrage that is especially effective against weak spots.
Each bowgun also has its own element. Kanima gives the example of an Anjanath bowgun, which makes every shot fire element. Kanima's pre-launch list names it the strongest weapon for the Fated Adventurer, because it reaches top damage with minimal effort. Pepper adds a vertical element, firing rapidly from midair.
Bow
Bow is a fast, highly mobile ranged weapon that rewards staying on the move. Evasion and Perfect Evades help build its charge, so dodging is part of your offense. You also have more room to read attacks than with most melee weapons.
Kanima says Bow has higher damage potential than Heavy Bowgun, but it needs proper positioning and closer range for its spread and power shots. Luka is an Assault archer whose Thunder Coating arrows pierce through targets. Madelyn is a Support archer who uses medicines and Spores to aid allies. Your party's needs decide which one fits.
How to choose your weapon
There is no single best weapon for everyone. BlueStacks suggests matching a weapon to how you like to play, then testing it on your Fated Adventurer first.
| If you like | Try |
|---|---|
| Holding your ground with a shield | Lance |
| Keeping your distance while you learn | Bow or Heavy Bowgun |
| Fast action and managing a gauge | Dual Blades |
| Mastering counter timing | Long Sword |
| Patient, heavy strikes | Great Sword or Hammer |
Weapon strength is close overall. Kanima found the closed-beta damage data relatively balanced, and says weaker weapons still clear content, only more slowly. See our best weapon for beginners guide for a first pick.
